The Groundskeeper wins Subcontractor
of the Year Award

UofA Alumni Plaza

The Cornerstone Building Foundation names The Groundskeeper the Subcontractor of the Year. The Awards program, sponsored by Southwest Gas, recognizes skill, responsibility and integrity in the construction and design profession. The awards are based on quality of craftsmanship, contributions to the community, consistency of service to clients, responsiveness to schedule and budget, emphasis on teamwork and collaboration as well as longevity of the company. "This is a very special honor for us given the fact that we are being recognized by our partners in the construction profession. It is also a great testament to our Construction Division Manager, Paul Mueller, and his entire team, to have been nominated so many times as a finalist and now to actually win the award." said Anil Hiremath, CEO of The Groundskeeper.

The Groundskeeper has been nominated annually for the award since becoming a member of the organization, and has been a finalist three times. This year The Groundskeeper beat out 47 other nominees, including two other landscape companies, for the subcontractor of the year award.

FALL SEASON TIPS

Trees and Shrubs

Fall is a good time for fertilization for many trees. One method of effectively fertilizing trees is known as Deep Root Fertilization. This involves injecting a liquid fertilizer into the root zone of the tree at high pressure, providing both fertilization and valuable aeration. It’s an excellent way to provide nutrients and micronutrients to the tree.  Properly fertilized trees and shrubs are better able to fight off pests and disease.

Tips to becoming a Valued Subcontractor

The Groundskeeper credits winning subcontractor of the year to the loyalty and dedication of their employees. Our employee owners are driven to provide their customers with the best service available in the industry. They do this by following the below simple processes which are built on solid fundamental values.

  • Take good care of your people. Satisfied employees make satisfied clients. Be flexible around family matters, and always treat them with the respect you desire to receive.
  • Listen to the client. It is essential to understand the client’s expectations. Remember that if the client wasn’t happy, it doesn’t matter that you were.
  • Be proactive. Solve issues before they become problems. This helps give the general contractor peace of mind.
  • Go the extra mile. Help with budgeting and design/document review at no charge, and with no expectation of earning the work solely for providing this service.
  • Be consistent, predictable and dependable. Do what you say you will do, always, at any cost.
  • Stand by your work. If there’s a problem that you helped create, fix it immediately regardless of what it will mean to your margins.
  • Be mindful of the details. Understand the big picture, but keep your eye on the details. It is the details that could award you the next project.
