New Mexico Construction –
A Solid Foundation with Growing Success

San Juan College

One of The Groundskeeper's newest divisions, the New Mexico Construction Division, is showing steady growth with an outstanding portfolio of on-schedule jobs and satisfied customers. "Our ability to go on the road throughout the state really helps showcase our professionalism," says Andy Carbone, New Mexico Construction Project Manager. "Though we're based in Albuquerque, we've had projects from Deming to Farmington."

Another indicator of professionalism demonstrated by the new construction crews is the number of LEED certifications they've received on completed jobs. Landscape Designer, Rowan Lang, is LEED certified and has been instrumental in seeing projects meet these requirements. Some of the completed installations by the New Mexico Construction Division include the San Juan College Outdoor Learning Center and the Rodeo Road Median Improvements in Santa Fe. Projects currently under construction include the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho and the Upper Fruitlands Casino. "It's been very rewarding to be part of the growth and development of the New Mexico Construction division. With the extraordinary efforts of Rowan and our crews, I believe we have built a solid foundation that will have us at the forefront of the New Mexico construction market for years to come," says Carbone.

In Memory – Dave Lehmann

We are very sorry to announce that Dave Lehmann, the Dallas Branch Manager for Greater Texas Landscapes, passed away suddenly this past June at the age of 45. Dave, a graduate of Kansas State University, enjoyed volunteering at many Big 12 sporting events. However, his favorite times were those spent at home with his wife, Joni, and visits with his son, Matthew. Though Dave was with GTL for only a short time, he gained the respect and friendship of all of those around him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave's wife and family. He will truly be missed.

Greener Grass. Lower Water Bills.

The Groundskeeper now offers water audits for commercial properties to help managers achieve green grass without the sky-high water bills. The audits, which assess sprinkler performance, environmental conditions, and soil conditions, provides the Groundskeeper with the information needed to create a strategic plan for efficient water use for clients and their properties.

A properly installed sprinkler system provides a consistent amount of water over an area. This is based on the sprinkler head spacing, the spray nozzles selected, and water pressure. When any of these items are compromised, you will start to develop problems and brown spots.

During a water audit, several collection stations are used to measure the amount of water delivered to various areas during a routine sprinkler cycle. These measurements help determine the efficiency of the sprinkler system. When the measurements vary substantially from collection station to collection station, it indicates that repairs and adjustments are needed.

After an audit, solutions to repair any flaws found in the current water management program are discussed. A chart of how much water the landscape should be using based on the square footage of turf and shrub beds is created and this can be compared to the historical usage. While an audit may not be applicable in all situations, it may be what is needed to help you have a terrific looking landscape without wasting water.
